Sinopsis
Hispanoamérica, siglo XVIII. En plena jungla tropical junto a las cataratas de Iguazú un misionero jesuita, el padre Gabriel, sigue el ejemplo de un jesuita crucificado, sin más armas que su fe y un oboe. Al ser aceptado por los indios guaraníes, Gabriel crea la misión de San Carlos. Entre sus seguidores está Rodrigo Mendoza, ex-traficante de esclavos, mercenario y asesino, que buscando el perdón se hace jesuita y encuentra la redención entre sus antiguas víctimas. Después de luchar juntos durante años, se enfrentan a causa de la independencia de los nativos: Gabriel confía en el poder de la oración; Rodrigo, en la fuerza de la espada.
Synopsis
When a Spanish Jesuit goes into the South American wilderness to build a mission in the hope of converting the Indians of the region, a slave hunter is converted and joins his mission. When Spain sells the colony to Portugal, they are forced to defend all they have built against the Portuguese aggressors.
