Sinopsis
Un hombre parcialmente disminuido, de nombre Karl (Billy Bob Thorton) es liberado del hospital mental en el que se encontraba ingresado. Todo ello 20 años después de matar a su madre y a otra persona. Karl, al que siempre le preguntan si sería capaz de volver a matar -él responde que ya no hay necesidad- vuelve al pequeño pueblo donde nació y entabla amistad con un adolescente llamado Frank (Lucas Black). Muy pronto Karl conocerá a Linda (Natalie Canerday), la madre de Frank, pero se verá apartado de ella por culpa del posesivo novio de ésta, Doyle (Dwight Yoakam)
Synopsis
Karl Childers, a mentally disabled man, has been in the custody of the state mental hospital since the age of 12 for killing his mother and her lover. Although thoroughly institutionalized, he is deemed fit to be released into the outside world.
